Talking Times Table – Easy study and fast learning By Zofia Kosarzycka

  • October 11, 2016 6:37 am

As kids get older they are asked to learn a lot of new things in school or at home. Multiplication is one of those things. Years ago we were sent home with a “times table” printed on a sheet which we memorized and moved on.

Not anymore. Kids today have apps like Talking Times Table that give them an interactive way to learn their times table that is just a little less boring than that sheet of paper we used. Certainly multiplication tables are still useful and Talking Times Table makes it a little more fun.

How effective is Talking Times Table ? We think it is exactly what is needed. A simple app that can be used for multiple children to learn their times tables quickly. You get graded on your work and you can see your progress easily. Parents can have their kids spend 10-15 minutes at a time with the app and be assured their kids are getting the most of that time.

Toddler Time! for iPad By Picoman Games

  • March 4, 2013 6:23 am

Toddler Time! for iPad – Picoman Games is a great app for your younger child to learn shapes, letters, numbers, and other objects. Toddler Time! for iPad – Picoman Games provides 80+ different objects to name and hear spoke aloud. A simple concept for learning that is certain to reinforce or teach some new object names.

Even with my 6 year old (this app is probably best suited for 2-4 years in my opinion) there were some objects we didn’t expect. Check out the video we made of Toddler Time! for iPad – Picoman Games and see what I believe is playdoh. Either way Toddler Time! for iPad – Picoman Games is a great app, very simple, some fun, lots of learning potential, and certain to keep your little one’s attention for a reasonable amount of time.

Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc

  • December 28, 2011 7:37 am

Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc is a very well-done learning applications about cells. I am really impressed how much information is packed into Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc. My ten year old loves to research anatomy, cells, and just about anything related to science and Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc does not disappoint.

Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc includes videos, awesome graphics, and very good descriptions of the science being demonstrated. The navigation of the app is outstanding and we love that we can turn off the background music without losing sound for the videos and other audio in the application. If your child is learning about cells or is interested in science, this is an engaging app that can teach them a lot about that one subject.

Not to say that Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc is limited, but rather that the single subject it tackles is rather large in scope. There is a lot to learn about cells! I certainly learned something by playing with the app and my ten year old has returned to it several times and I still think she has some material to cover.

The quizzes are a great addition just to check your knowledge after each section, because again there is a lot of material in Cell and Cell Structure By Emantras Inc!

Of course my daughter is curled up with her iPad wrapped in the Big Grips Frame for iPad 2 – Pink. The iPad is so much more comfortable to hold in the Big Grips Frame for iPad 2 – Pink. Other than spills, there is little she could do to hurt the iPad in this frame!

Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio

  • December 27, 2011 7:34 am

Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio a very interesting, fun, and I am betting effective math app/game. Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio allows for more than one player, automatically pulling in the competition that can drive from some constructive competition among peers. Of course this should be monitored, as in any classroom activity, but this idea makes Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio really appealing.

My ten year old daughter’s classroom just received 10 iPads and I could see this app being installed on each one. The math isn’t hard, but the timer makes it challenging. You can see in the video my ten year old is making a few mistakes and really wants to get the right answer, but the timer adds some stress.

Can your child learn from Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio? Sure. It takes your child through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Your child will need to already know the answers, so Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio is really a reinforcement tool and not an introductory tool. That is to say you would not use Operation Math™ By Spinlight Studio to teach your child division, but instead use it to reinforce the concepts your child already knows.

The graphics are great, and I mention in the video that this app is really geared towards boys, which is cool because I do not see a lot of that in the stores (I am a boy/dad!).

iPad only.

Of course you will notice that we have our iPad wrapped in the Big Grips iPad Frame. Even my ten year old like the frame. It makes it more comfy to hold in a chair since the iPad can be sort of sharp without the Big Grips iPad Frame on it.

i Learn with Poko: Additions! by Tribal Nova

  • December 9, 2011 7:00 am

i Learn with Poko: Additions! by Tribal Nova is a great additions app for a young child. Poko will teach your young one (ages 3 probably) to count up to 6, then up to 10, then even further. The object of the app is simple and any child that has basic counting skills can begin to have some fun very quickly.

i Learn with Poko: Additions! by Tribal Nova asks your child to “add” by simply counting the objects on the screen. Once they have an idea of how many objects were knocked down, or selected, your child can pick the correct number from the bottom of the screen. Is it easy? Sure. Effective? I bet it is.

Our four year old has no trouble with the game, but does not yet understand that she is adding numbers. Instead she sees it as a counting game, which is ok too. It just might be a bit misleading if you are actually trying to teach your child to add 2+2 and get 4. Instead this app does not provide your child with the numeric representation of the numbers to be added, so traditional addition that they might encounter in kindergarten isn’t accomplished. Still it is a fun learning app for sure.

ZOOLA Opposites By Best kids Apps

  • December 4, 2011 7:50 am

ZOOLA Opposites By Best kids Apps certainly lived up to expectations. I needed a simple app that would teach my four year old opposites. My four year old attends pre-school and was recently sent home with a report card. The report was good, but pointed out some things that we as parents had forgotten to teach our young human. The first was opposites (she has sarcasm down pat).

So I opened up the iPad and searched for an opposites app. I ran across ZOOLA Opposites By Best kids Apps for 99 cents. I spent way too long on the decision and purchased the app. Ten minutes later my four year old can name several opposites. Did the app work? Yep.

How long did my four year old spend on the app? Probably 10 minutes a few times in a row. Is it a single use app? Yes it is. Does it do a good job at its single task? Yes it does.

Word Wall HD By Emantras Inc

  • October 11, 2011 3:50 pm

Word Wall HD By Emantras Inc a great educational app by a company who really knows that space well. Emantras has many kids educational apps for everything from words to dissecting animals. A really great app publisher with a lot of apps to offer.

Specifically Word Wall HD By Emantras Inc is meant to teach your child letters and then words. The app is designed to span a wide range of ages. My daughter who is four is ready to explore all the letters since she knows them well, but figuring out how to spell a word is something she is working on. The app covers the whole range.

There isn’t just one game in Word Wall HD By Emantras Inc either. It is a full set of learning games with a couple skill levels to choose from. My daughter was dragging letters to name the picture, simply choosing a letter to explore, and having fun while doing it.

When I was done with this video she stopped me and asked me to record her some more thinking that she had to stop playing with the app. It is fun and rewarding with stickers and achievements and she did not want to stop. Of course I explained that she could play with the app some more and I would watch :)

My daughter has been playing with the app for a while on our iPhones, but since we picked up the excellent Big Grips Frame for iPad 2 – Pink, we haven’t been able to pull her away from the iPad.

Emantras has an HD version of the app as well as the standard version that we were using, so be sure to grab the right one from the iTunes Store!

Motion Math By Motion Math

  • September 12, 2011 7:36 am

Motion Math By Motion Math is another great math learning tool. This time you aren’t choosing the operand for the math problem, or saving the world from aliens NASA-style, instead you are bounding a ball. Sounds simple right? Not so fast.

The ball is bouncing on a platform which is a whole. The ball becomes a fraction that you need to use to bound on the appropriate portion of the platform (the whole). The neat thing is as you miss the platform gets more defined and you can tell where to bounce more precisely. It is a great spin on fractions learning and a fun game to play.

My ten year old and I were having fun with the voices during the video. Be sure to check it out!

Math Samurai By Edin

  • September 9, 2011 7:30 am

Math Samurai By Edin is a fun and simple math reinforcement app. The game play is mesmerizing to young kids. The swiping and slashing it challenging enough to keep the game interesting while reinforcing what your child is learning in school.

A simple math learning app that is fun to play. Math Samurai By Edin is definitely a download because it offers a different way to learn math. Instead of figuring out the answer you need to figure out the operand. A great take on classic math skills!

Math Force Delta By Brian West

  • September 8, 2011 7:17 am

Math Force Delta By Brian West is a simple and very good math learning app. Math Force Delta By Brian West teaches addition, multiplication, division, and subtraction in a simple to play, but still challenging, app.

The idea behind Math Force Delta By Brian West is that you need to answer the math problem in order to shoot down the alien spaceship. Perhaps NASA could use this app. Probably not.

The app spans a large age group because you have the change to go to harder levels as you get better at the problems. My ten year old was having some fun/trouble with the hardest setting. It is a challenge. Learning is fun with Math Force Delta By Brian West.

Brian West seems to have a good handle on learning apps. We have reviewed his apps before, and loved those too!
