My daughter enjoyed adjusting the speed and stopping the train for passengers. The game play doesn’t last too long, but it is just enough to be fun right before bedtime or on a long trip. Certainly worth the $2.99 price tag.
Monster Chorus By ReignDesign took a while to figure out. I suppose I should have read some instructions or followed through a tutorial, but I didn’t. It took some time to get used to the new app, but it soon revealed itself to be very entertaining. How entertaining is the question.
The idea behind Monster Chorus By ReignDesign is that your child will interact with the monsters by pressing on them, singing with them, or recording their own voice. The app ends up growing on you and starts to become fun. The voices are very well done and seemed very interesting to my four year old.
How long will it last? So far I haven’t encountered my four year old picking the app from the usual choices and jamming away. Usually just after introduction any app will get some play time and so far that isn’t the case with Monster Chorus By ReignDesign.
The app feels like it has a lot of potential and has been top app in the music category according to the publishers, but I just do not see it. I am going to add it to the list of apps to revisit.
Papa Penguin By Ideal Bureaucracy LLC is a fun and simple counting app. The idea is you are the Papa Penguin and your family needs fish. So you swim down and gather the amount of fish request by your family before running out of air. The game is easy to understand and builds number skills and some hand eye coordination in your child.
Is it fun? It sure is. Is it a challenge? Yep. Will it keep your child occupied for hours on end? Probably not, but a fun counting app isn’t that easy to come by so Papa Penguin By Ideal Bureaucracy LLC is worth the download.
ABC Aliens HD by Cambridge English Online ltd. is a fun but really challenging ABC learning game. The idea is you have four games to play where you are asked to find the letters of the alphabet within 30 seconds. You can do it in upper and lower case and backwards.
Is the game fun? Yes it is. Does it teach the alphabet? Sure, it can work as a tool to do that. One of the choices is to have the alphabet read to you by an alien or a child’s voice. The alien voice is silly, but clear, and my daughter liked that.
My four year old knows the letters of the alphabet upper and lower case pretty well. She confuses d and b sometimes, but knows the letters pretty well. In this app she had a hard time getting the letters in 30 seconds. In the video she had a hard time getting 4 letters in that amount of time. As we played with the app more and more she could get further, but never all of the letters. It takes me 26 seconds. The backwards version is fun and makes for some interesting group gameplay.
Fun – 3 (it is mainly a learning app, but it is fun too)
Learning – 4 (it is a supplement to other alphabet learning tools)
Attention – 2 (your child will not want to play with the app for more than 10 minutes at a time)
